Meet the Makers: Women’s Month Edition
In honor of Women's Month, we're thrilled to shine a light on the incredible women whose work fills our hotels and shops at Nomada, a female-founded company. From the creators and leaders who inspire us all year long to the fellow female-founded businesses we've had the pleasure of collaborating with, we're celebrating the power of women lifting each other up. When we come together, we all rise.
ADRIANA LEMUS
At Nomada, we're honored to feature the custom ceramics of Adriana Lemus in each of our hotels. Working out of her studio in San Luis Obispo, Adriana creates a range of functional homewares and sculptural decorative pieces, all handmade in small batches.
But Adriana's artistic vision extends far beyond the walls of Nomada. Much of her work explores the female form, with pieces inspired by real selfies submitted by friends and collectors. Celebrating body positivity, Adriana's art challenges unrealistic ideals and encourages every woman to embrace and love the body she's in.
"After 16 years of making pottery, I've still never been bored of working with clay," says Adriana. "The clay itself can become an inspiration. My vision with my work is that every woman will come to appreciate and love her body. I hope that we move away from an unrealistic media ideal of women's bodies and move toward embracing the body that we have been blessed with."
FABLE RUNE
The dynamic duo behind FableRune, Jeriel Sydney and Bobbie Cunningham, are the creators of the signature apothecary collections featured in Nomada's hotels. This small-batch, all-natural skincare company is rooted in the healing power of plants and generations of women's beauty wisdom.
FableRune approaches self-care as more than just beauty — they see it as an essential act of nourishment and intentionality. Founded by a mama in search of pregnancy-safe skin products, their formulas are inspired by the enduring power of natural ingredients and grounded in wellness wisdom passed down through the ages.
Their approach turns everyday routines into intentional rituals, empowering us all to slow down, savor, and truly care for ourselves. Women give so much to others, FableRune reminds us that nourishing yourself is just as essential.
CASEY O’CONNELL
California-based artist Casey O’Connell creates paintings that radiate joy, curiosity, and playful freedom. The women in her work dive into water, get lost in books, and embrace life with fearless whimsy—reminders to live boldly, embrace wonder, and find magic in everyday moments.
For Skyview, Casey created three original works—Digging Deeper, Float, and Canyon People—now on display throughout the hotel. Each piece reflects her signature spirit of joie de vivre and her deeply personal approach to painting. As Casey puts it, “The paintings I create are often autobiographical dialogues that capture both my inner twelve-year-old and the woman who knows better. I paint what I live and what I feel.”
That same spirit carries across the Nomada Hotel Group: at Hotel Ynez, Paul Newman and a Ride Home hangs in the guestrooms, while River Lodge’s lobby is home to Russian Doll and This Is My Rushmore.
SABREENA URNESS
At Stellar + Sun Hat Co., Sabreena Urness crafts bespoke hats inspired by the cowboy culture of California’s Central Coast. In a field traditionally dominated by men, she brings a fresh, creative perspective to every piece—hand-shaping and detailing each hat so it reflects the individuality of the person who wears it.
Inspired by Sabreena’s artistry, we partnered with her to create a custom collection for River Lodge. Each hat is thoughtfully adorned with materials and elements drawn directly from the hotel’s furnishings and décor, weaving the style and spirit of River Lodge into every design.
The result is a collection that feels both timeless and distinctly local—an ode to the region’s cowboy heritage with a modern creative twist.
Discover the collection exclusively at the River Lodge lobby shop and find the hat that’s uniquely yours.
GINA GIUGNI
Gina Giugni is a second-generation biodynamic farmer and natural winemaker based in San Luis Obispo. She founded Lady of the Sunshine in 2017 with the intention to care for the land and let its character shine through her wines.
"From an early age, I learned to work with Mother Nature, not against her. Our purpose is simple: to leave the land better than we found it."
We’ve had the pleasure of collaborating with Gina in crafting Skyview Los Alamos’ house rosé and aligoté, grown at Skyview Vineyard and vinified by Gina and her husband, Mikey.
"These wines are a compilation of many intentions, things I love, and layers of self-evolution, all folded together over time."
Join us in raising a glass to Gina. You can find Lady of the Sunshine wines, including Skyview rosé and aligoté, on the menu at any Nomada restaurant.
CK REED
Artist CK Reed is known for her bold, layered mixed-media collages, abstract paintings, and murals. For Nomada, she crafted custom prints that capture the spirit of each property, blending color, texture, and imagination into pieces that feel alive. Every work reflects her fearless creativity and singular perspective — a reminder of the power of women shaping the visual world.
